AttendUX vs Sage HR: the honest comparison
Sage HR (formerly CakeHR until the 2019 Sage acquisition) is a UK-origin cloud HR product for small and mid-size businesses — core HR, leave management, performance reviews, expenses, timesheets. Headquartered in Newcastle with Sage parent in Newcastle UK. Pricing: £5.50-£16+ per user per month tiered. Primary market: UK, USA, Australia, South Africa. Clean UX, solid core-HR feature set.
AttendUX is MENA-native, built in Egypt + USA, pre-configured for Egyptian Law 14/2025, UAE Federal Law 33/2021, Saudi Mudad+GOSI+Nitaqat, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Iraq. Arabic UI (Egyptian + MSA), ZKTeco cloud sync, mobile face check-in, WPS SIF generation, WhatsApp support.
Similar target company size, very different feature direction.
The short version
Pick AttendUX if you operate in MENA — Egypt, Gulf, Levant, Iraq — and need WPS SIF generation, Arabic UI, ZKTeco cloud sync, Egyptian/Saudi/UAE labor-law compliance pre-configured, mobile face check-in, dual IQD/USD payroll, same-timezone WhatsApp support. Sage HR has none of these. Pick Sage HR if you are a UK, US, Australia or South Africa SMB (or MENA-adjacent but staffed in English-only + operating under UK/US employment norms). Sage HR is a good product for its market; it is simply not built for MENA compliance. For a MENA SMB, Sage HR is structurally incompatible, not just more expensive.
Same company size, different continent
Both AttendUX and Sage HR target 10-500 employee businesses — the SMB + mid-market band. But the products are built for entirely different continents.
Sage HR assumes: UK employment law, £GBP payroll, HMRC compliance, English-only employees, UK bank holidays, UK-style leave (annual + sick + personal), UK-standard performance review cycles, UK/US timesheets + expenses.
AttendUX assumes: MENA employment law (Egyptian 14/2025, UAE 33/2021, Saudi Labor Law, Qatari 14/2004, Kuwaiti 6/2010, Omani 35/2003, Iraqi 37/2015), WPS SIF filing, mixed Arab + expat workforces, Hajj leave, maternity per each country's rules, ZKTeco biometric gates in office + factory sites.
For a MENA SMB, Sage HR's SMB-sized product is irrelevant because none of its assumptions match the working reality.
MENA compliance — the show-stopper for Sage HR in MENA
Sage HR has no WPS SIF generation (UAE, Saudi, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman — all missing). No Mudad submission. No GOSI brackets. No Nitaqat quota tracking. No Egyptian Labor Law 14/2025 engine. No dual IQD/USD payroll. No Arabic UI. No RTL layout.
These are not add-ons that can be enabled — they would require re-architecting the core product. Sage HR's engineering priorities are UK HMRC compliance, US W-4/I-9, Australian STP, South African SARS. MENA is not on the roadmap.
AttendUX is the inverse: every MENA country's compliance is day-one stock, Arabic is the primary UI, WPS SIF is a 1-click export. UK HMRC isn't on our roadmap either — these are purpose-built regional products.
Where Sage HR actually wins — UK core HR + ecosystem
Sage HR is well-built for its target market. Honest strengths:
• **Performance review cycles** — anniversary reviews, 1-on-1 check-ins, 360-degree feedback flows that are UK-standard.
• **Timesheets + expense claims** — full timesheet approvals + mileage + per-diem expense claims, integrated with Sage Accounting + Sage Payroll (UK) for seamless UK SMB bookkeeping.
• **UK/US onboarding workflows** — e-sign (via Sage HR Signatures), policy acknowledgement, new-hire checklist.
• **Sage ecosystem integration** — native integration with Sage 50, Sage 200, Sage Payroll UK, Sage Accounting for small businesses already on the Sage finance stack.
• **UK benefits management** — pension auto-enrolment, salary sacrifice schemes, UK-specific leave types.
For a UK SMB, Sage HR is often the natural choice. The issue is only when someone tries to use it for MENA operations where none of these features line up with the actual compliance requirements.
Support hours + language — operational reality for MENA
Sage HR support operates UK business hours (9am-6pm GMT/BST). A ticket from Cairo filed at 10am Egypt time (which is 9am UK in winter, 8am UK in summer) sees first response same-day in winter and often same-day in summer — not catastrophic. But Dubai/Riyadh/Doha, which are GMT+3-+4, file tickets outside UK business hours; 8-18 hour lag is typical. Phone support is UK-based, English-only.
AttendUX support runs MENA-timezone-first. WhatsApp support in Arabic or English responds within 2-6 hours typically during Egyptian + Gulf business hours. For HR teams dealing with payroll corrections on the 28th of the month before monthly payroll close, same-timezone support is the difference between fixing the issue today vs tomorrow.
