The short version
Pick AttendUX if you run a MENA business, need WPS/Mudad/GOSI/MOHRE compliance, want mobile face check-in (with optional ZKTeco device integration if you have any), want zero hosting, and need production in 1 click. Pick Odoo HR if you want a full ERP (CRM + accounting + inventory + manufacturing + HR) in one stack, have DevOps team to maintain self-hosted Odoo Community, OR budget for Odoo Enterprise + the MENA customization consultant.
The "free" myth of Odoo Community
Odoo Community is LGPL-licensed, freely downloadable. On paper: zero cost. In practice, running Odoo Community HR for a real business in MENA requires:
A Linux server (DigitalOcean $20-40/mo or self-managed), PostgreSQL DBA knowledge, monthly security patch windows (Odoo ships 4-6 CVEs per year), backup strategy, SSL certificate renewal, custom module development for Egyptian/Gulf labor law (a Gulf Odoo partner charges €2,000-€5,000 for MENA payroll module), ongoing maintenance when you upgrade across Odoo major versions (v16 → v17 → v18 breaks modules every 12-18 months).
True 3-year TCO for a 50-person Egyptian business on Odoo Community: €6,000-€12,000 (server + partner + DevOps time). AttendUX Prime for 50 employees over 3 years: ~55,500 EGP (~€1,100). Odoo Community is "free" the way a used car is free when you factor out gas + insurance + repairs.
MENA labor law — Odoo partner-dependent
Odoo was built in Belgium for European payroll. Egyptian Labor Law 14/2025, UAE MOHRE WPS SIF, Saudi Mudad + GOSI brackets, Nitaqat Saudization — none ship in base Odoo. You either (a) hire a Gulf Odoo partner (Mohamed Alshammasi, Alfa Soft, several others) to build a MENA-payroll module for €2,000-€5,000, (b) buy an existing community module from the Odoo App Store (quality varies, often abandoned), or (c) customize it yourself if your dev team speaks Python + Odoo ORM.
AttendUX ships these pre-configured. New Egyptian customers select their tier and labor rules are already compliant from the first payroll. Mudad SIF, MOHRE WPS, GOSI + Nitaqat tracking are all toggles, not custom builds.
Zero-ops vs full-control tradeoff
The core tradeoff is control vs operations burden.
**Odoo Community gives you full source-code control** — fork the HR module, customize anything, host it anywhere. For a company with a strong engineering team that wants full ownership + integration into other internal systems, that's real value.
**AttendUX takes zero-ops to extreme** — you never see a server, patches, backups, or upgrades. HR managers run payroll, we run infrastructure. For a company whose engineering team wants to focus on product, not HR system babysitting, that's real value.
Neither is universally better. The right call depends on your org's engineering capacity + appetite for infrastructure work.
Where Odoo HR actually wins
If your business genuinely needs a full ERP (CRM + accounting + inventory + manufacturing + HR + POS), Odoo does that in one stack. The modules share data, user records, workflow. For a manufacturing company with 200 employees that also runs their factory floor + sales pipeline + accounting through Odoo, adding Odoo HR is incrementally efficient.
For the same 200-person company that ALREADY has separate accounting (QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books) + separate CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce) + separate inventory, bolting Odoo on just for HR adds operational complexity without ecosystem gain. Pick AttendUX and stay focused.
